Technical Specifications
What is a Round Flange Forming Line YFL-40?
A flange forming machine is sheet metal equipment that produces TDF (Transverse Duct Flange) or TDC (Transverse Duct Connector) flanges on the edges of rectangular duct panels. These flanges allow duct sections to be bolted together with gaskets for air-tight connections. Flange formers are typically used in conjunction with auto duct lines or as standalone machines for custom ductwork fabrication.

Still Losing Money to Slow Flange Installation and Poor Seals?
Every HVAC duct shop faces the same bottleneck: manual flange forming and riveting. When your team spends hours on inconsistent flange dimensions, your production capacity drops, labor costs rise, and deadlines slip. The Round Flange Forming Line YFL-40 is engineered to eliminate these inefficiencies — automating round flange forming line YFL-40 while delivering consistent, factory-grade quality.
In this guide, we break down exactly how this machine transforms your automatic flange welding workflow, what specifications matter for your operation, and how to calculate your return on investment. Whether you run a 3-person job shop or a 50-employee production facility, understanding these details directly impacts your bottom line.
How It Transforms Your Production Line
The Round Flange Forming Line YFL-40 operates on a proven principle: round flange forming line YFL-40 should be a continuous, automated process — not a series of manual interventions. Here is the step-by-step workflow that makes this possible:
Panel Feeding
The duct panel edge is fed into the flange forming rollers, with adjustable guides ensuring proper alignment.
Flange Roll Forming
Multiple roller stations progressively form the TDF/TDC flange profile — creating the integral flange that replaces traditional angle iron frames.
Corner Notching (Optional)
Integrated notching stations cut the corner reliefs needed for clean 90° flange corners.
Corner Crimping
Hydraulic or pneumatic corner tools crimp the flange corners, creating a rigid, square connection point.

Problems Solved: Before vs. After
We asked 50+ HVAC fabricators about their biggest production headaches. Here is how this machine directly addresses each one:
| Without This Machine | With This Machine |
|---|---|
|
✕ Angle iron flanges are heavy and slow
Welding angle iron takes 10-15 min per duct, adds weight |
✓ TDF integral flange formed in seconds
Flange time reduced to 30 seconds, 40% lighter |
|
✕ Flanges don't align on site
Gaps between flanges cause air leakage, need shimming |
✓ CNC-formed flanges with ±0.3mm accuracy
Perfect flange alignment, gasket seals every time |
|
✕ Riveting is slow and labor-intensive
Each flange needs 8-12 rivets, 5-10 minutes per duct |
✓ TDF flange is integral — no rivets needed
Eliminate riveting entirely, save 70% assembly time |
|
✕ Corner gaps and leaks
Poor corner construction is the #1 leak source |
✓ Hydraulic corner crimping creates tight corners
Leakage class C compliance, no corner leaks |
Where It Fits in Your Factory
This machine is versatile enough to serve multiple production scenarios. Here are the most common configurations our customers use:
Commercial HVAC Ductwork
TDF flanges are the global standard for commercial rectangular duct connections — used in offices, hospitals, schools, and retail.
Industrial Ventilation
TDC flanges for high-pressure industrial systems where heavier gauge and stronger connections are required.
Duct Retrofit & Replacement
Upgrading old angle-iron duct systems to modern TDF flange technology for better sealing and faster installation.
Prefabrication Facilities
High-volume duct prefab shops where consistent flange quality is essential for just-in-time delivery to construction sites.
Frequently Asked Questions

Round Flange Forming vs Rectangular Flange Forming
This is a different product from the TDF and TDC machines on this site, and it is the one buyers most often confuse with them. The YFL-40 forms flanges for round and spiral duct — rings, angle rings and Vanstone flanges — not the flat rectangular panel flanges that TDF and TDC machines produce.
| Machine | Duct type | Output | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
Round Flange Forming Line YFL-40 This machine — round duct flanges | Round and spiral duct Ring and angle-ring flanges | Continuous forming from coil or strip Cut to length | Your work is round or spiral duct Pairs with a spiral tubeformer rather than with a TDF former |
Rectangular duct flanges | Rectangular duct panels TDF profile on flat panels | Panel by panel Operator-fed | Your work is rectangular commercial duct Not a substitute for round flanging |
Rectangular, high pressure | Rectangular duct panels TDC profile | Panel by panel Operator-fed | Rectangular work above 4 in. w.g. Different profile entirely |
Flanging the end of a spiral tube | Spiral tube ends End flanges for connection | Per tube At the tubeformer outfeed | You need to flange tube ends rather than make rings Complementary to this machine, not a replacement |
Makes the tube itself | Round spiral tube The duct, not the flange | Continuous Upstream of flanging | You are building a round duct line from the start This machine flanges what that one forms |
Setting Up a Round Flange Line: Diameter Consistency Is Everything
A round flange that is 2 mm out of diameter will not bolt up on site, and the error is invisible until assembly. Set the line up for diameter first and everything else follows.
- 1. Ring forming tooling is cut for a diameter range. A line set up for 200–600 mm will not produce clean 1000 mm rings, and forcing it damages the tooling.
- 2. Measure the formed ring diameter at three points around the circumference. Any spread above 1 mm means the roll settings or the strip tension need correcting.
- 3. A ring can be perfectly formed and the wrong length. Measure length on the first and last piece of every batch.
- 4. Most diameter variation on a ring line traces back to inconsistent strip tension rather than to the rolls. Set tension first, then adjust geometry.
- 5. Rings are joined by welding, by a connector, or by a clamp. The end preparation differs for each, and getting it wrong produces rings that cannot be assembled.
- 6. Three measurements per ring on the first and last piece of each batch gives you a trend before a batch reaches site.
- 7. Changing supplier or gauge changes springback, and springback is what moves ring diameter. Re-set whenever the material changes.
- 8. A ring that looks correct can be 3 mm out. Give operators a gauge and authority to stop the line.
Round Flange Line Faults: Symptom, Cause, Fix
Round flanging faults are nearly always diameter or length, and both are measurable. Measure before adjusting — guessing on this machine produces scrap quickly.
| Symptom | Most likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Ring diameter varies around the circumference Strip tension inconsistent | Variable tension during forming is the dominant cause Far more common than a roll geometry fault | Set and stabilise strip tension first, then re-measure at three points Only adjust the rolls if tension is stable and the error persists |
Ring diameter correct but length wrong Cut length setting drifted | The forming is fine; the cut is out Easy to misdiagnose as a forming fault | Check the cut length on the first and last piece of each batch Re-set and lock the length stop |
Ring will not bolt up on site Diameter tolerance, or the wrong bolt pattern | A 2 mm error is invisible until assembly Sometimes a specification mismatch rather than a machine fault | Measure diameter at three points and check the hole pattern against the drawing Send us the drawing if the pattern is in question |
Springback changes after a material change New coil has different yield characteristics | Different supplier or gauge means different springback A purchasing change often looks like a machine fault | Re-set the line for the new material and record the settings separately Keep one set-up card per material supplier |
Surface marking on the formed ring Roll damage or debris | A sliver of material rolled into the surface marks every piece after it Usually traced to a damaged strip edge | Clean the rolls with a brass brush and inspect the strip edge condition Never use steel on the roll surface |
Line stalls on heavier gauge Tooling specified for a thinner range | Running outside the tooling's specified range A specification issue rather than a machine fault | Verify the actual thickness with a micrometer and compare with the tooling spec Do not force material through tooling rated below it |
