Snaplock Machine
Snaplock (pittsburgh snap) forming machine for quick-assembly duct connections without fasteners.
Technical Specifications
What is a Snaplock Machine?
A Pittsburgh lockformer (also called a Pittsburgh lock machine or pittsburgh machine) is a sheet metal forming machine that creates the Pittsburgh lock seam — the most widely used connection method for rectangular HVAC ductwork. The machine rolls a female pocket on one edge of the sheet and a male flange on the mating edge, allowing ducts to be assembled by simply inserting and hammering the seam closed. Pittsburgh lockformers are essential equipment in any sheet metal duct fabrication shop.

How Much Does a Snaplock Machine Cost?
Pittsburgh lockformers range from $1,500 to $8,000 USD. Single-function entry models cost $1,500-$2,500. Multi-function machines (Pittsburgh + snap lock + standing seam) range from $3,000-$5,000. Heavy-duty industrial models with 1.5mm capacity cost $5,000-$8,000. Most machines process 0.5-1.2mm galvanized steel at 10-20 meters per minute.
Snaplock Machine — Key Specifications at a Glance
This lockformer doubled our seam production speed. The feed is smooth and consistent, no jamming even with 1.2mm galvanized steel. The quick-change feature lets us switch between duct sizes in under 5 minutes. Preda's team sent replacement gears free when we needed them after two years of heavy use.
We use this machine for galvanized, stainless, and aluminum — all with excellent results. The adjustment is intuitive and the lock profile is consistent across materials. Our technicians picked it up in a day. Preda's remote support helped us fine-tune the pressure for stainless steel without a site visit.
Still Losing Money to Weak Duct Seams and Air Leakage?
Every HVAC duct shop faces the same bottleneck: hand-forming Pittsburgh locks. When your team spends hours on inconsistent seam quality, your production capacity drops, labor costs rise, and deadlines slip. The Snaplock Machine is engineered to eliminate these inefficiencies — automating snaplock machine while delivering consistent, factory-grade quality.
In this guide, we break down exactly how this machine transforms your pittsburgh snap forming workflow, what specifications matter for your operation, and how to calculate your return on investment. Whether you run a 3-person job shop or a 50-employee production facility, understanding these details directly impacts your bottom line.
How It Transforms Your Production Line
The Snaplock Machine operates on a proven principle: snaplock machine should be a continuous, automated process — not a series of manual interventions. Here is the step-by-step workflow that makes this possible:
Material Feeding
The sheet metal edge is fed into the forming rollers, guided by adjustable fences that ensure perfect alignment every time.
Multi-Station Roll Forming
7 or more precision roller stations progressively bend the metal edge into the Pittsburgh lock profile — male on one side, female on the other.
Edge Hemming (Optional)
Additional roller sets can simultaneously form hems, drive cleats, or S-slips on the opposite edge in a single pass.
Discharge & Stacking
The formed panel exits the machine ready for assembly — simply hook the male and female locks together and close with a seam locker.

Problems Solved: Before vs. After
We asked 50+ HVAC fabricators about their biggest production headaches. Here is how this machine directly addresses each one:
| Without This Machine | With This Machine |
|---|---|
|
✕ Hand-formed locks are inconsistent
Some seams too tight, some too loose, air leakage varies |
✓ Precision roller forming, identical every time
Consistent airtight seams, predictable quality |
|
✕ Slow manual forming
One worker can form 20-30 panels/hour by hand |
✓ Powered feed, 10-15m/min forming speed
One operator processes 100+ panels/hour |
|
✕ Multiple machines for different profiles
Need separate machines for Pittsburgh, S-slip, hem |
✓ Quick-change roller sets, multiple profiles on one machine
One machine does it all, save floor space and money |
|
✕ Sharp edges cause injuries
Workers cut hands on raw sheet edges |
✓ Integrated edge hemming option
Safe rolled edges, fewer workplace injuries |
