Starting a new HVAC duct manufacturing facility requires careful planning of equipment, layout, and workflow. Here is a complete equipment checklist.
Core Production Equipment: • Spiral tubeformer (mould or band type) for round duct production • Auto duct line (Line 3 or 5) for rectangular duct production • Pittsburgh lockformer for longitudinal seams • TDF/TDC flange former for rectangular duct connections • Hydraulic elbow maker / gorelocker for round fittings
Supporting Equipment: • Duct beader / groover for panel stiffening • Sheet metal shear for cutting to length • Press brake or pan brake for bending operations • Spot welder / seam welder for assembly • Corner making machine for TDF corners
Workshop Layout Considerations: • Coil storage area near the duct line inlet (minimum 5m clearance) • Raw material staging for flat sheets (for Pittsburgh and flange machines) • Production flow: coil → forming → cutting → assembly → finishing • Finished duct storage with adequate racking • Quality inspection station with measuring tools
Space Requirements: A basic setup with Line 3 + spiral tubeformer needs approximately 300–500 m². A full Line 5 facility with all supporting equipment typically requires 800–1,200 m².
Power Requirements: Most machines run on 380V/3-phase/50Hz (or 480V/60Hz for North America). Total power consumption for a complete line ranges from 40–80 kW. Ensure adequate electrical supply and compressed air (0.6–0.8 MPa) for pneumatic machines.
Labor: A Line 3 operation needs 4–6 workers per shift. Line 5 reduces this to 2–3. Include at least one skilled technician for machine maintenance and quality control.
