Choosing the right spiral duct machine is one of the most important investment decisions for an HVAC fabrication workshop. This guide walks you through the key factors.
Mould Type vs Band Type: Mould-type machines use a fixed forming mould for consistent roundness and higher speed, ideal for high-volume production of standard sizes. Band-type machines offer faster diameter changeover, making them better suited for job shops producing varied duct sizes in small batches.
Diameter Range: Most standard machines cover 100–1200mm (4"–48"). If you regularly produce larger ducts for industrial applications, consider models extending to 1600mm. For residential-focused shops, 80–800mm may be sufficient.
Cutting Method: Slitter cutting is the traditional choice for galvanized steel up to 1.2mm, offering clean cuts at high speed. Plasma cutting adds versatility for stainless steel, aluminum, and complex cut profiles, but requires additional investment and ventilation.
Production Capacity: A machine forming at 12 m/min can produce approximately 500–700 meters of duct per shift. Calculate your monthly duct requirements and choose accordingly — under-sizing leads to bottlenecks, while over-sizing wastes capital.
